Effect of Ethephone on Anthocyanin Content and Antioxidant Activity in Tuberous Roots of Red Kwao Krua (Butea superba Roxb.)

Studies on the effect of ethephon at 0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 ppm on anthocyanin content and antioxidant activities in tuberous root of Red Kwao Krua (RKK) (Butea superba Roxb.) of RKK were conducted. Ethephon at 300 and 400 ppm resulted in a highly significant effect on the thickness of cortex and the amount of anthocyanin in the tuberous roots (P< 0.01 ). Using the DPPH technique and Trolox as the control, results showed that IC50 of all RKK extracts was different (P< 0.01 ). RKK crude extracts sprayed with ethephon at 300 and 400 ppm gave the highest antioxidant activities.
