Sardi 190 Pueraria Mirifica is the best ingredient for manufacturing into finished products for both of health care and cosmetics. This raw material also serves as a premium health supplement for personal use. It is praised to be one of the potential herbs for moving Thailand economy.

Background of Pueraria Mirifica

There are many types of Kwao Krua including Pueraria Mirifica (White Kwao Krua), Butea Superba (Red Kwao Krua), Mucuna Macrocarpa Wall (Black Kwao Krua) and Kwao Krua Mor (Gray Kwao Krua) which can be used differently. However, Pueraria Mirifica is the most popular one due to its properties on rejuvenation.

Background of Puerria Mirifica

This herb has been known as an elixir for so long. It can help promote your strength, nourish skin and strengthen teeth following the Thai folk medicine recipe. However, Pueraria Mirifica is now known well among women and transgender who want a breast enlargement supplement for both internal and external uses.

Normally, Pueraria Mirifica can be found in the forest of almost every region of Thailand especially in Northern Thailand. However, ones that are found in the forest are not effective to use. Moreover, digging and harvesting the Pueraria Mirifica from the forest and mountain can badly damage the ecology and cause the soil erosion. Therefore, proper farming is needed to control its quality and prevent damages on natural ecology.

Researchers from Kasetsart University needed to find the solution for these problems, so they gathered all species of Pueraria Mirifica and planted them in the National Swine Resource and Research Center to study on this herb. The outcome was Sardi 190, the best Pueraria Mirifica ever with the highest Phytoestrogens. Sardi 190 Pueraria Mirifica was also the most suitable species for farming which was the solution they looked for. According to the result, people can grow their own Pueraria Mirifica instead of damaging the forest.

The cultivar Sardi 190 Pueraria Mirifica is now a high potential herb due to its high effectiveness and safety which is proper for manufacturing into rejuvenating products and health care.

The Creator of Sardi 190 Pueraria Mirifica

Sompoch Tubcharoen is a professor at Kasetsart University, Kamphaengsaen Campus. He gathered all species of Pueraria Mirifica and cultivated them in the National Swine Resource and Research Center, Kamphaengsaen Campus in Nakhon Pathom to find the best species of it.

At first, the productivity was very low. Though the nursed root grafting technique was created since 1999, the propagation was too slow. After 10 years of effort on researching, the researchers finally discovered the most proper cultivation of Pueraria Mirifica which was the cutting technique and tissue culture. This came to the discovery of the best species called Sardi 190 which provides more than three times higher active compounds than other ordinary Pueraria Mirifica. Cultivated under the proper method and safe environment, Sardi 190 Pueraria Mirifica therefore could be spread faster and provide higher productivity. The cultivar Sardi 190 is consequently considered the best Pueraria Mirifica ever.

After that the researchers intend to promote this Sardi 190 Pueraria Mirifica to public and suggest farmers to cultivate this species more. People can use it widely or even export it to other countries. When Pueraria Mirifica products are exported, their background must be rechecked afterwards. If it is found originated from the forest, the value of Pueraria Mirifica will be decreased. It is better if Pueraria Mirifica is cultivated correctly which will be more comfortable for export.

The current researches reveal that Pueraria Mirifica contains estrogenic hormones, so it is widely used now.

Pueraria Mirifica has been known for a long time. It is praised to be the queen of Thai herbs nowadays. Formerly, this herb was used as a folk medicine for elder people. Nevertheless, the current researches reveal that Pueraria Mirifica contains estrogenic hormones, so it is widely used now. For National Swine Resource and Research Center, they used Pueraria Mirifica to improve animal products since 1995 to 2013. Because of that research, they found that not all Pueraria Mirifica from the forest can be used and Pueraria Mirifica from different places give different estrogen amount. Therefore, National Swine Resource and Research Center began to plant this herb from 1996 to 1997.

Ministry of Public Health in Thailand has announced that Pueraria Mirifica is the protected species. By this, the use of this herb is limited. It is estimated that more than one thousand tons of Pueraria Mirifica are brought from the forest each year, causing a huge loss of natural Pueraria Mirifica. While there is a soil erosion problem, the improvement on Pueraria Mirifica planting is then needed.  Regarding the regulation, however, the quantity of cultivation is not limited.

How to Cultivate Sardi 190 Pueraria Mirifica

To plant Pueraria Mirifica, the soil must be prepared well in a specific way, while none of the fertilizer is used during the cultivation. Start by turning the clay soil to the loam soil. Then, add some manure to the soil for fertility. This process is important as it can affect the quantity of Pueraria Mirifica tubers. Apart from preparing the soil, water control is also essential. This is because, in the first year, Pueraria Mirifica has to rely on a lot of water for growing. Furrow planting is recommended to allow the roots to absorb water easier. After preparing the furrow, pour some composted manure and loosen the soil with a disc harrow. Mineral licks are also needed to help store the gas for the growth of Pueraria Mirifica.

Cultivation of Sardi 190 Pueraria Mirifica can be performed in 3 ways as below:

  1. Seeding
  2. Cutting
  3. Nursed root grafting

For seeding, plant the seeds in a tray that is filled with rice husk ash. Leave for 45 days and move the sprouts to the nursery bags. After 60 days, transplant seedlings to the outdoor plot. Make sure to get the plot ready for planting by using a tractor to open the soil horizon first. The best time to start planting Pueraria Mirifica is in April.

The planting can be in the tied ridges or a plain land, depending on the plot zone whether it is in the lowland or upland. The most proper soil for planting is loam or sandy loam. Also, the watering system must be controlled well to avoid flooding problem.

Pueraria Mirifica is a climbing plant so it’s important to imitate this climbing feature when cultivating. This will allow it to grow perfectly and produce more leaves which are necessary for better photosynthesis. Also, this will help it store more Phytoestrogens.

To cultivate, agriculturists should dig small holes approximately 20×20 cm deep for each plant with equal spacing, and water properly before covering with the plastic. Then transfer the root grafting to the plot, cover it up with straw or hay to maintain hydration and protect the young plant from the sun.

Pueraria Mirifica is easy for cultivation as there is no insect bothering this kind of herb. When it is grown enough, support it with the trellis so it can climb up to get the sunlight. The height of trellis should be around 1.5 meter, at the level within reach to the top of the plant. By doing this, it will be easy for taking care of the plant.

It normally takes around 3 years before the Pueraria Mirifica can be harvested. So, if Pueraria Mirifica is cultivated for business, the excavator is a better option for a faster and more comfortable harvesting method. This will also make the soil ready for the next planting. After being harvested, Pueraria Mirifica should be cleaned up. The good quality tuber will sink in water. Then slice the tuber and leave it dry under the sunlight for 2-3 days. After it’s completely dry, pack in a sealed plastic bag.
